Summary
In the play Macbeth, a brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become king of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and encouraged by his wife, Lady Macbeth, he murders King Duncan and takes the throne. However, guilt and paranoia plague Macbeth as he tries to maintain his power, leading to more murders and ultimately his downfall.
